Bengaluru to Coorg: bus, train or car — which actually makes sense?

Coorg is about 250 km from Bengaluru — close enough that a flight would be absurd, and TripWise doesn't offer you one. It offers three genuine ways to get there, and the right one depends on what you're optimising for.

The three options

Self-drive or a shared cab — ₹3,000 per adult, about 6 hours. The fastest option and the most flexible — you set the schedule and can stop wherever you like on the way. The cost splits across the group, so it gets a lot cheaper per person with three or four travellers in the car.

The overnight Volvo bus — ₹1,600 per adult, about 7 hours. Runs from Bengaluru or Mysuru, usually overnight, so you sleep through most of the journey and wake up in Coorg with a full day still ahead of you. The single best time-for-money trade of the three.

Train to Mysuru, then a road transfer — ₹900 per adult, about 9 hours. There's no direct rail line into Coorg, so this means a train to Mysuru followed by roughly a 2.5-hour road transfer the rest of the way. It's the cheapest option by a wide margin, and the extra couple of hours over the bus rarely matters unless you're tight on time.

Which one TripWise picks by default

This is exactly the kind of thing a flight-shaped travel planner gets wrong by default: assuming everywhere has a flight, or pricing a route nobody would actually take. Coorg doesn't have one, and pretending otherwise doesn't help anyone plan the trip.
